The Danish Gustav Pedersem, number one in the world junior olympic cross country (XCO) ranking, confirmed his favoritism and won, in Tamengos, Anadia, the European junior men’s title.
The race was defined very early. Gustav Pedersen, Dutchman Rens Teunissen van Manen, German Paul Schehl and Italian Marco Beteo separated from the pack and rode at the front in the opening laps.
Gustava Pedersen began, in the final third of the race, to make an elimination run. He increased the pace and was joined only by the representative of the Netherlands. But no one could resist the strength of the Dane, who went solo on the last lap.
Gustav Pedersen crossed the finish line alone, leaving Rens Teunissen van Manen 11 seconds behind and Paul Schehl 52 seconds behind, both ensuring their places on the podium.
Portuguese Artur Mendonça, seventh place, 1m37s, also deserves a special mention.
At 2 pm starts the junior women’s race.
